All I can tell you is the doves are coming from the east at MACH 2 and never stop in the mile long field in front of us. They sometimes are flying LOW and are hard for these old eyes to pick up and so the shooting is quick.

One shy of a limit...guess I'll have to go back this evening...daughter had a great time retrieving my downed birds. The Green O/U was flawless. Strange that both barrels measure IC but the second barrel patterned full at the plate. Owenjj3

I wish to goodness I could post the pics of my two grandsons with their dove limits this afternoon. Maybe eventually. Oldest, Jackson (14), limited out first with his 20 ga., I got my 15 next, with my Dickinson .410. Lane (11), the younger brother to Jackson, was shooting his 20 and this was his absolute first dove shoot, to be shooting. He has gone with us for years and shagged birds, but never wanted to shoot.
We called it at 5:00 so the birds could come on in and feed unmolested and I rode out to get Lane. I asked how many he had (I knew he was close to the limit just by seeing so many he had shot down). He replied "Fourteen ..... I didn't get the limit". He was a bit put off. I was ecstatic that he had bagged that many on his first time shooting, and made a big deal of it. Later, when we were laying the birds out and taking pics of him and his brother we learned that he had really taken the limit, but had miscounted!! I, tongue in cheek, scolded him for not counting properly.
We had a wonderful day, better than I could have ever hoped for. Lots of birds. The field of gunners probably took between two and three hundred, total. I'm thinking there is going to be some serious competition between Lane and his older brother Jackson, in days to come!!

Oh yeah, the lunch. Grilled chicken quarters, ribs, lobster/macaroni and cheese, marinated slaw, real key lime pie, and fresh cooked peach cobbler. All the fresh picked scuppernongs and muscadines so you could ask for, too.
May God bless America and those who defend her.

Stan congratulation on your grandsons. Money can not buy such fine memories. My middle son and I went today to a farm in northern KY. Before the Dove shoot we stopped by Elk Creek Sporting Clays and shot a hundred Sporting Clays on their woods course followed by fifty on their pro course with our 28's. My son David smoked me on both courses with his 28 Ruger against my Ithaca 37. I love the 37 in 28 but my thumbs and fingers are too large to load it easily. I see why they have never made a .410 version because I could never load it with fat fingers. After the clay target warm up we went to shoot doves about thirty miles east of there. The birds were steady singles or pairs, mostly high fliers where we were setup. Rolling hills with hedge rows make for some fun birds. If we used a mod or full choke they came down when hit well and it was a great shoot. We killed and retrieved 30 birds with less than two shells per bird average. One of my better days in birds per shells this year.

Sounds like y'all had a great shoot, too, Jon. We're going back today to the same field. Jackson had an invitation to another shoot for today, and was considering going to it, as we didn't know for sure we were going to shoot this field again until we scouted it yesterday afternoon. When I texted him that we were indeed going to shoot, he said he would let me know if he was coming or not. I asked him, in reply, if his little brother was going to shoot with me, to which he replied that they BOTH were coming. They're close, but Jackson still doesn't want little brother getting one up on him. The friendly competition is going to be fun to watch over the coming years. 'Course, they still know their place. Ohio opener was great limited in little over 2 hours with the 410. 32 rounds 15 birds. Perfect weather.

Scratch up another limit today for the Dickinson .410. Jackson got 13, little brother Lane got 11. Another great day to be alive.

Great results with the grandkids, Stan! I regret that I have only a granddaughter, and she doesn't seem to have any interest in shooting. (I also failed with my daughter.) My son does hunt, but no offspring coming from that quarter.
