Sorry to be "that" guy, but I'm hoping one of you mavens can help me identify my "new" double-rifle.
By "new", I mean it's probably over 100 years old. The only mark I've been able to read/reference is on the top rib where it says "Paul Mossiers Hoflieferant Breslau". I've found a few (hardly any) SxS shotguns with this mark, but no rifles.
There's no caliber marking, but it really likes to eat handloaded 43 Mauser cases, once they've been cut back about 1/2 inch, and expanded a touch. It came with a hollowpoint mould, which in a VERY cool twist has the same s/n as the rifle. So I've been feeding it 60gr of FFFg Goex, which it's been chugging through quite happily. I "think" the chamber is one of the 11.5x50R variations. I have some Cerrosafe on the way so I can do a casting to confirm this.
There are three marks on the under-flats of the breach:
Farthest forward is a three-point crown.
Below that is what appear to be a musket, crossed with a pistol and a horn inside an oval.
Below that is a capital S. (I think)
Finally, there's a s/n.
(Yeah, I know, but I haven't figured out how to post photos yet.)
Someone mounted a Weaver J2.5 scope to the top rib, which seems to have been made to accept the mounting.
I bought this rifle to shoot, I like it, it hits hard, and it's fun to shoot cast bullets over black powder. So all that's cool, but it'll be even cooler if I can solve these riddles: When was it made? What's the chamber?
