It's amazing the assumtions people make...John, I am the owner of Stolzer and Son's Gunsmithing and I've never "cobbled" anything in my life. I apprenticed under a master gunsmith then worked part time for 4 years before opening my own shop as a fulltime custom gunmaker. Which I have been doing for the last 10 years. I specialize in pre-1898 Big Bore(muzzleloading and Cartridge) and Muzzleloading Double Rifles. Just because my name is not famous does not mean that I lack the skill or intergity to do the job. It means I don't need any more publicity than I already have because with a 2.5 year backlog more advertising doesn't actually help me. The fact that he found me on youtube really doesn't mean much either since even Holland and Holland have their own youtube channel. It just means that I use youtube as a venue to show/share some of the builds and knowledge I have. Perhaps you should have some knowledge about a person or their business before you decide they are just some "dude" who is going to "cobble" this guys gun back together. If you've got 10 or so hours and want to actually evaluate whether I have the skills to do this work you can watch the fully documented build of a 10 Bore 1844 Purdey SxS Rifle reproduction(replica) on my youtube channel: link - 1844 playlist on my youtube channel Mr, Stolzer. No offense meant by my reply to the op's statement that he was using a guitar repairman and some Purdey replicator. I assumed the worst, especially since this is his first post here and there are way more hacks out there than true craftsmen and artisans. The stock should be fixable with a "fillet" of wood inserted under the trigger guard the same way they do what is called a "butt transplant" to change stock dimensions witjout reinletting the stock head. If you intend to shoot the gun do something like that not just epoxy. Your guitar man may be good but I would send this to someone who does stocks. Nice project, hope you wind up with a shootable Purdey.

JR, well said. Takes real hair to do such; I am impressed.
raven, I strongly support the idea of getting a full assessment of this gun's potential. If you "just put the stock back together" you may well make a future repair that returns this gun's stock to shootable very difficult. I'd want to know that the barrels are not shootable before starting a "weak" repair on the stock; without some reinforcement system.
I'd offer a valuation, but this one is outside the envelope of my valuation system. I will offer the following. As a "D" grade gun, it might be worth 1/4 of a similar "best work" gun. Assuming it is a James Purdy of London, and it appears to be, that fact has value. If it were restored to safe shooting condition and reasonable finish on wood and metal, I'd think in the $2000 range.

I realize now that this site is for serious collectors and gunsmiths. I learned how to skelotonize a big bull redfish skull by going to a taxidermist site and I've learned a good bit about the Purdey here. I think I should have said more than a YouTube person when I mentioned Mr Stolzer since it was obvious to me that he was a highly skilled gunsmith despite being an FNG in this area. In any event, thanks for all the guidance.

I wouldn't discount guitar restoration people. I have had some serious discussions with violin chelo standing bass etc restoration specialists and aside from the checkering I believe they can refinish a gun stock better than most gunsmiths who think they can
