I'm wondering if any here smoke a pipe while shooting. Does the recoil throw ashes into your eyes?

Hi, I smoke a pipe, but not when I'm hunting or shooting. I fire up when I'm in the truck going from spot to spot. For me smoking one while hunting would lead to a lot of problems.
Best!

Another thing to consider is that a lot of bird hunters hunt over dogs, and a lot of bird dogs are trained on whistle commands. My dog is trained to a whistle and I have it my mouth whenever we are hunting, thusly no room for a pipe as quick whistle commands take priority.

Recoil ,no ...but if you happen have the damn thing hanging out of the same corner of your mouth as you mount your gun on a quick flush you can get a lot of ash and embers in your face .
Ask me how I know

Not a pipe but occasionally a cigar, if the conditions are right. The only thing I miss when the conditions are right is a small dram of port or malt whiskey. I have few rule when hunting and one of them is no alcohol in the bind.

Hunting while smoking is a looked down on habit in this country [Montana] because of the fire hazard.

Like Tamid, mostly a cigar these days, no issues with recoil and ash. Long ago when young smoked a pipe while duck hunting over decoys, but keep dinging it up.

Do you smoke a pipe, nialmac? I'm surprised it's not mentioned more on this site. Seems to fit with the guns rather nicely. Each country has its own style much like guns and cars. My family is from Pesaro, a center for pipe making in Italy.

Smoking Sam Gawith Black XX as I type this. Good stuff!

An Uncle of mine once shot a Rem 11 (Left Handed) while smoking a pipe. Once was enough he said.
