Is anyone familiar with this maker? If so, is the quality spotty, excellent, good, bad, average? The gun is the 16ga that Griffin and Howe has on GI. Comments?
Thanks! Bill

Looks like good quality shotgun probably made in Belgium for J. Rosler. Considering the gun is listed by Griffin & Howe the price is not unreasonable. If the stock fits the buyer and they don't mind ordering 65mm cartridges it looks like a good buy.

Might be Belgian sourced. Büchsenmacher Julius Rößler of Salzburg was active at least by 1894 & possibly earlier. So Salzburg, Austria? Close to Ferlach(250km). Kind Regards, Raimey rse

Just a suggestion, but price wise I would compare this to old Auguste Francotte of similar quality and subtract certain percentage for unfamiliar name on the barrel rib. While being European I don't necessarily deduct for name obscurity Americans will pay less for something like that if you decide to buy it and move it later on. As Bill Murphy suggested on other forum years ago one makes money at buying time not selling time. Buy lower sell higher works with guns just like with anything else.

Based on the photos and input so far, I have the following. Brand Value level four (BV4 - Lessor known Continental makers and/or associated with lower quality). Original Quality grade six (2nd quality BLE); assuming it is an ejector gun. Current Condition level between level three (CC3 - Significant use) and level four (CC4 - Heavy use, but no abuse).
BV4-OQ6-CC3 = $1,160
BV4-OQ6-CC4 = $883
Do note that generalizations about a gunmaker's quality are subject to considerable error as most makers made a wide range of OQ grade. Therefore, we must asses the quality of individual guns. Likewise for Current Condition. The maker's reputation is factored into BV level.
Please also note that this is a "value", and not at all a suggested price. You might choose to pay more to a dealer with a sterling reputation and less in a deal with unknown parties. It is intended to jump start you in understanding how the "market" see various guns.
