I always was a fan of "Bloom County". Berkeley Breathed wrote and set the strip while he was living in my Home Town, many of the structures and houses he portrayed, including the house where Opus lived, actually exist. When I was young I actually lived only a block from it. I met him a couple of times, I can recall discussing the significance and use of computer passwords with him, which he later used aspects, albeit simple one's in his strip.
I remember this specific cartoon well. When he wrote it the Reagan Recovery was going Full Steam, people were prosperous and happy, so much that the Sociopathic Democrats had to totally manufacture the mythical "Homeless Crisis" as a way to attempt to install "guilt" into American Society. As if prosperity and economic individual achievement were things to be ashamed of. It was virtually the only domestic economic issue they had, times were so good. At that time the number of people who identified themselves as "Liberals" was very low. Rightly so.
I especially enjoyed the antics of "Bill the Cat", portrayed as the Anti-Garfield, as well as the adventures of the penguin "Opus". If anyone has not seen the strip, I highly recommend picking up one of the books of it available. It ranks right up there with "The Far Side".
An Opus extravaganza...
http://www.angelfire.com/vamp/shoopshoop/opus.htmlThe hunter in the strip's name was "Senator Bedfellow" or "Major", I think it was the later....
