Has anyone else noticed how often Americans on this forum frequently use the British term “bore” instead of gauge?

Because we won that war, my shotguns are all in various gauges (except my .410 caliber), my trunk is not a boot, the hood of my car is not a bonnet and my friends are not my mates.

“The caliber of shotguns is measured in terms of gauge or bore (the British English term)."

I can't say that I have unless it's a writer, trying to impress his readers with terms instead of content. I usually just say the number, as in "my 12" or "your 28". If I add anything it would be gauge, not bore. Never add anything to "my .410.

I'm guilty, but unrepentant. "Bore" is easier to spell. TT

Franc-

I am not at all offended, I think many of the British terms are charming and there is much to admire in the culture. But I agree with Jim, I think the use of the term "bore" by many on this forum is likely an affectation.

I don't use the term because to me, it means a rifled shotgun...or Wonko the Sane. (Maybe that will get the ol fart out of hiding)
