Note there's not a Crown over R on the water-table that I can see. Script initials EK & something in parans I can't ID for now Would the consumer/end user be the one to request that the sporting weapon be altered, as in this case from 8x57(looks like 10 gram bullet weight??) February 1926 to 8x60 with a 12 gram bullet weight in May 1927? Kind Regards, Raimey rse

Does it appear that the original caliber marking was "7,8X57" or was it "7,9" which was partially obliterated? Have you measured the groove diameter?
There would have been no legal reason for rechambering to 8X60R, since neither 8X57IR or 8X57RS was a military cartridge. My guess is that the owner simply wanted to improve the performance of the rifle on red deer and wild boar.
It looks like an impressive rifle. How does it shoot? My Greifelt drilling in 12X12X8X60RS is deadly on deer.

xausa, The original was 7.8.It may take .323" bullets now.The old bullet in the neck of a fired case test would tell the tale.
Raimey, How could you tell it is a Christoph Friedrich Trieble rifle? Mike

Ford, the concern's monogram is near the script EK & just above something in parentheses.
Kind Regards,

I'm pretty confident that the 1st pass was at a diameter of 7,8mm and stamped at 57mm. Not mine of course or I'd have the particulars. Kind Regards, Raimey rse

Raimey, I read it as 7.8x57 also. After rechambering they had 7.9x60.It is hard to determine why they would have had 7.8 and later 7.9 in the same barrels. There could have been two different techs making the measurements with different "feel"in their hands. It's possible but unlikely that wear would be enough in 15 months to do it( it wouldn't have to be 0.1mm, in theory it could be 0.01mm if it would almost take the 7.9 ga. the first time). They could have just called it 7.8 to start with, to avoid problem with "S"barrel. I read the original bullet wt.as 13, instead of 10, as you did. I knew it isn't yours,I had an inquirey from the owner before seeing this thread. If I had thought it is yours, I would be trying to trade you out of it. Mike

Aside from the fact that it would have to leave the shop to have been reproofed, I understand what you are wondering. It is possible that they had to rechamber it in order to sell it, but I don't know of any way to determine that. Mike

Raimey, Are these different barrels on the same gun? Note the variation in the Triebel is in the same barrels pre and post rechambering. I also noted the bullet weight is 13grams here also. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family. Mike
