I got this T&S drilling about a month ago and it seems pretty nice. I have not been able to do anything except slug the bore which measured .359.
I finally got my Cerrosafe and made a chamber cast. It is indeed 75mm long and the bullet measures .366 at the inside neck. Where the rifling starts it goes done to 355 or so. I had slugged the bore at .360 and I may need to wait a bit for the cerrosafe to stabilize. It is a straight taper case from base to neck. It really looks like a Sauer case as in 6.5x58R but it's bigger. The base is .4355 and the neck is .393. I havent' measured the rim but it is thin compared to some.
8.6/75 is the chamber marking.
What is the consensus on this cartridge?

I found this:

"Hallo,

And then in english :

"Hi there,

The cartridge was developed by or for the weapons factory Thieme & Schlegelmilch Suhl and probably came as around 1890, with the typical for this manufacturer brand name "Nimrod" on the market. She does not have the "newer" bullet caliber .366 "as the cartridges 9.3 x62/64/74R, but the older, narrower caliber .364" like the 9.3 x72R.
With the 12.5 g TMF projectiles is likely to be short of about 3000J Eo.
Ammunition is no longer manufactured since the war, for the reloader made Horneber shells. Projectiles (12.5 g TMF) are available from RWS, Sellier & Bellot or Delsing, heavier projectiles TMS (13g, 15g and 16g)of Delsing and reloading dies from RCBS (possibly also of CH).
Just ask whether the cartridge in the WL program "Quick Load" by Ing Brömel is listed, then data can be determined easily WL (of nutrition).
When load is to pay attention to whether the weapon has black powder or nitro fire."

Perhaps a slightly more comprehensible translation would be:

The cartridge was developed by or for the weapons manufacturer Thieme & Schlegelmilch in Suhl and came on the market in 1890 under the name "Nimrod", typical for this manufacturer. It does not use the "newer" bullet dimension of .366" like the cartridges 9.3X62/64/74R, but rather the older, slimmer diameter of .364", like the 9.3X72. With the 12.5G jacketed flatnose bullet it should develop only about 3000 Joules of muzzle energy.

Ammunition has no longer been manufactured since the war. For the reloader, cartridge cases are available from Horneber. The 12.5 G jacketed flat nose bullets are available from RWS, Delsing, and Sellier & Bellot, heavier jacketed pointed bullets (13, 15 and 16 G) are also available from Delsing. Dies are available from RCBS (and possibly C&H).

Check to see if the cartridge is listed in the "Quick Load" reloading program developed by Engineer Brömel. If this is the case, then reloading (feeding) information can very easily be obtained.

It will be well to note in developing loads whether the weapon is proofed for black powder or for smokeless.

Thanks. It's pretty much as I suspected. I have a copy of "Quick Load" so I'll look it up.The thing that puzzled me was the large throat in the chamber. It's .366 and rapidly goes to .355 as the rifling begins.

Ben,
I often find this condition and very often use cast bullets significantly larger than groove dia.As long as the bullet will fit easily into a case fired in the same chamber, there should be no problem, if the load is worked up for that bullet.I use .364" bullets in 9.3x72R with .358" groove dia.In my opinion, this centers the cartridge better in the chamber.

S&B and Buffaloarms make a stepped bullet to deal with the wide variations in the 9.3/.364 cartridge bore dimensions. Mine has a .364 groove and only a .344 bore.

S&B doesn't sell components in the USA anymore but I'll take a look at Buffalo arms. Hawk makes some for the .366 also but I don't off hand remember what they are.
Thank you all for the information

Ben,
I think Hawk makes one( about 200 gr) for the 9.3x72R,but most of their .366 bullets are for 9.3x 57/62/64/74 and shouldn't be used in the older rifles.
