Exactly what parts are unavailable for a Model 17 ? I've purchased a few items, well used, from gunbroker and ebay. There isn't anything new, that I'm aware of. A second barrel is a tough find. The Upper Sandusky people will fit a new stock if you would like. I had a 12 gauge model 37 fitted with one, plainish grain, and I don't recall the cost, but it wouldn't have been too expensive or I wouldn't have done it. For a good chunk of my life, a Remington model 17 was my only repeater. Somedays, I think it should have stayed that way. Best, Ted

I have two M 17s and the few parts I needed were easy to find, even a couple of barrels.
There is nothing wrong with a 17, parts are out there.

Years ago, a poster on here had obtained a Grade D that he planned to gradually restore. Beautiful gun with some finish issues. Anyone ever hear of an update on that project?

Jaegermeister: Getting your hands dirty is half of the fun! Postoak: Glad to hear that some m17 parts are still available. I so seldom see even whole guns that I assumed parts were made from unobtainium.

Wasn't the person that posted the photos trying to purchase the D Grade from a person reluctant to sell it but unwilling to clean it up ?

Postoak: It looks like a 17, but it's actually a decendant, a pre-war M37.

The doves are in trouble now! After one week of soaking in diesel #2 (and some gentle persuasion), the barrel rotated and came off. The plug is going in and reassembly begins after that. Any suggestions for a good lube to use?
