I was looking at a Costo Super thinking it was a MF Ideal but there are no MF markings anywhere and it looks like a cross between an Ideal and a Robust with a snap on forend. Can anyone tell me about them all I can find is an old add for one on the internet. Can anyone tell me more about them?
Thank you
Oskar

oskar: don't you have to be a club member to buy one of those?
a google search for costo shotgun revealed a few hits.

I had a Costo about 7 or 8 years ago, basically a Robust in fact from what I've been told the word costo is a synonym for the word robust. I forget why it was sold under the Costo name.

I do not believe French make inexpensive sxs anymore because Europeans do not buy them choosing O/U instead. I'm convinced that inexpensive SxS from places like Russia, Turkey,...... are only made to be sold in United States.

"Costo" is a synonym for Robust, although in both cases they changed the spelling. The French words are robuste and costaud. They undoubtedly figured that if they sold any Costauds to English speakers, there would be pronunciation problems even worse than the infamous Darnay.

I got to shoot a few rounds of skeet with the Costo Super and liked it enough to buy it. From my searches on a French gun auction it seems that Costo's are pretty rare and I didn't see any that weren't anything other than a renamed Robust. This one is more of a renamed Ideal in great shape. When I get to a wired hookup where posting picture are easier than on my phones wifi I'll post them.
I'm fishing in northern WI at the moment wish I would have been able to leave a few days earlier for the shoot in Medford. Fishing has been great, large northerns, bass and walleye have been cooperative and are going to hit the crappies and sunnies with the flyrod next week.
Still looking for more info on the "Costo Super". I'd post over at the Gournet sight but after two attempts to register I'm still unable to post over there.
After the first shot the rest are just noise.

Oskar, Manufrance made a hybrid model called the Ideal-Robuste. (Imaginative on the naming front). It is essentially an Ideal action with the Robuste mono-block barrels. Is that what your Costco is like?

Oskar - does it look similar to the one in this link ?
http://www.gournetusa.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=208&SearchTerms=robust,ideal
I came across one similar to this a few years ago that was marked COSTO - it was very plain and in 12 gauge so I passed it by.
I have a COSTO Robust, also. Some where I read that since Manufrance was a big Mail Order House in France; some guns were trade marked COSTO so they could be retailed by other firms.
Who knows ? French Guns are a rule unto themselves, especially Manufrance guns.
Mine's a tale that can't be told, my freedom I hold dear.

Pictures I promised. From what I've learned from one of the members here. The Costo, Costo Super and the Super were Manufrances guns to be sold/stocked by dealers not mail order. Their relation to the MF models, Robust/Costo, Ideal/Super and the Robust stepped barrel Ideals/Costo Super. It is a very nice handling shotgun, I shot a few rounds of skeet with it from the low(International skeet)hold and like it a lot. It just might be a goto pheasant gun if I can get used to the safety. I haven't had too much trouble going from top tang to Darne side lever and Greener on my drillings.
