What I am wondering is would the weld repair on the lug not have compromised safety? The barrels must have gotten fairly hot duting welding unless the barrels were set in ice or something. Also, how far into the barrels does the weld penetrate? It appears it's mainly on the surface. There is no indication of damage/heat penetration inside the bores. You can hear a piece of solder between the ribs but it might be a little piece of slag from when it was made. The barrels actually ring very clear and crisp. The weld is in a fairly critical area of the barrels so I'm wondering about safety.

Hi GunsA' That would make me kinda nervous, being so near to where your left hand would be...did you have that done , or bought like that? I wouldn't shoot it till I had someone look at it...be careful. I know nothing about metallurgy , but that looks kinda dangerous to me, it looks abit like over kill best to you franc

The gun arrived to me this way and the repair wasn't mentioned. The forearm does go on actually very nicely. However, I am very concerned about the repair. I just heard back from the fellow and he will take the gun back so looks like I'm packing it up.

The gun is just a lowly winchester model 24 in 16 gauge.

The 24 I once owned had the same arc or gas welded lug. Go ahead and accept it as a factory job. Remember, this wasn't a Model 21! One thing about it: it ain't coming off.
