Wolfgang,
My German is very poor, but I think (Gasdruck)would be (Gaspressure), as usual I could be wrong.

Raimey,
Can you post photos of the 4 holes? I couldn't find them in the link.

Mike,

of curse you are right!

Raimey,

I think no chance to get some more pictures, I've asked him....
I will ask a Master Gunmaker for the pistons.

Wolfgang,Raimey,
Just my 2 cents worth,I believe the holes are for a spanner to remove the bush holding the firing pin in.

Ok, Ford give your 4 cents on why the spanner required 4 holes? Have you seen a German 4 hole spanner wrench? Seems like a wretched device?

Raimey,
No,I never have seen such a spanner, but it makes more sense than any kind of pressure relief system that vents the gas toward the shooters face. One reason for a 4 pin spanner could be that 4 small pins would be stronger than 2 small pins, when there wasn't enough room for larger holes in the bush." When you hear hooves, think horses before zebras",as the famous author Mr.Anonymous once said.

Ford, I don't know if I would have put the equine 1st. Maybe camels, zebras, jackass/burro then the ole horse. What was y'all's beast of burden before the Spanish arrived?

The point is think of the most likely reason first.Btw we just used unruly children that wouldn't listen to their elders.

It's not easy for me to follow your "philosophic" post ;-) , but I've asked a Master Gunmaker and he told me:

"...das sind einfach nur Zapfenlöcher, damit man die Schlagbolzenmuttern herausdrehen kann. Der entsprechende Schlüssel hat zwei kleine Zapfen, oder vielleicht sogar deren vier, die in die entsprechenden Löcher passen"

only holes..... no horses... :-))

Best Regards,
Wolfgang
