A client (who is in the process of relocating his home clean across the country) came by today to kill some time while his realtor was showed his home. In the process of pre-packing some of his belongings, he ran across a little artifact that he had somehow accumulated over the years and he gave it to me, knowing about one of my soft spots. I've never seen one of these before, it's a little 14-page phamplet that's about 4-inches long and maybe 2 1/2-inches wide, and at the end of a roughly 6-inch long olive-colored corded loop. The colors are a chocolate brown top and bottom with a yellow cream banner with the chocolate letters stating "Care of your Shotgun". Below that, in cream-colored letters bordered by the chocolate bottom it says "L.C. Smith "The double that sights like a single"". On the last page it says on the bottom of the text, "Hunter Arms Co., Inc. Fulton, New York, U.S.A. Below that it says (in very fine print) "No.105 Printed in the U.S.A".

I've never heard of one of these before, let-alone seen one. Does anyone know what era this might have come from?

About 1939 or later, when the "Single Sighting Plane Rib" was an L.C. Smith selling point.

Researcher: Thank you for that. Do you happen to know how Hunter Arms used this type of phamplet? Was this loop-connected through the trigger guard as a true "hang-tag" or was it just part of the paperwork in the box of a new gun? It's quite detailed about how you should clean, case, store, and even tranport your new LC Smith gun.

Lloyd - lots of hang tag variants are shown in Houchins pp. 488-491.
Your brochure is shown on p. 492, with the string

Dr. Drew: Thank you! Not surprised to see you pitching in here. I don't have an Elsie anymore. Would you like to have this little brochure for one of yours? It needs a good home.

Thank you for your very gracious offer Lloyd. Your brochure is not commonly seen, and carries some value; probably more than a catalog of that era

I could send it on to Dr Jim for high resolution scanning and addition here
http://www.lcsmith.org/history/catalogcovers.html
like http://www.lcsmith.org/images/CoverCatalog1910.pdf

then on to the Fulton Historical Society for addition to the (work in progress) Hunter Arms museum, with an attribution.
I'll PM my address and on behalf of the LCSCA, thank you again.
