I believe Webley and Scott made the majority of the guns for Army and Navy. One of mine has the Army and Navy serial number on the trigger guard tang but the Webley and Scott serial number on the action flat and bottom of barrel.

Is W&S the abbreviation for P. Webley & Son or Webley & Scott?

I got records for my 1898 boxlock. Page showed clearly that Saunders was the maker. Also showed the buyer, 'wholesale' and selling price. Bob

My Army & Navy was from 1935 and was pretty clearly a Webly & Scott. I wasn't aware of this resource or I would have given it a shot. From what I remember reading in Mr. Hadoke's book on boxlocks, the earlier guns had a better chance of being from other makers.

My Army & Navy 12 "The Jungle Gun" is a W&S. I was disapointed with the scanned copy of the record book. It did not really provide any useful information that I had not recieved from my original request, ie. cost 25.00 BPS, sold 1895 to a Col. Anderson. The $60.00 for additional information only showed me that there were 13 Jungle Guns ordered on thst psge. It's a 117 year old document that was hand written, so you can't expect much more.

Webley merged with Scott in the late 19th century. I'd expect that any gun made any time after the merger would have been noted as "W&S" in the A&N records.

I lucked out, to a certain degree, with the information I got because the individual who ordered it happened to have been knighted, was a WWI hero, and from a fairly prominent British family. Even then it did take extra effort to run him down, and the initials on the motor case were the real clincher, along with the date of the order and the buyer's military rank. I also received pages from the period A&N catalog, showing the model of the guns I bought, and allowing me to compare them to other contemporary A&N offerings.
