Looks like this old clunker is headed my way.....so I will be in need of a Pacific sight similar to the one shown above. Will buy or if you are looking for a specific sight or part will trade. I have quite a few Lymans and parts for 03's.

Thanks,
Ken

I have one just like it on my Krag sporter. I picked it up on eBay some time back. Sometimes you just hit it lucky.

It is indeed a Gallery Practice Rifle. I would like to know some particulars when it arrives.

WM,

I got lucky on this one as no one else identified it as a .22 Krag. It has been monkeyed with as the stock and barrel has been shortend and scope bases added. Might make good plinker for the grandsons.

Thanks,
Ken

Take a look at the rifling and let us know what you see.

I think the Stevens Pope rifling on a .22 Krag will be identical to that on his other lead bullet rifles, while that on the .30-40 barrels is right hand twist (which is then carried to all I've seen in smokeless cartridge barrels).

At the Vegas show in January, Tom Rowe guessed the long awaited Pope books (two volumes) will be released around May 1, so we're finally getting close to having a much broader knowledge base available to us!

If I remember correctly, Pope converted Krags from center fire to rim fire by turning the rimfire barrel so that the bore (and chamber) were slightly offset at the breech, rather than attempting to alter the bolt and the firing pin. His method also allowed the action to be reverted to centerfire simply be reinstalling the original barrel.
