The "Spanish Gun" forum on Shotgunworld.com has a thread devoted to eye candy where members can post pictures of their favorite doubles. I think it's time we have the same type thread. Post pics of guns you own, have owned, want to own, wish you could own, or whatever. Here are few to kick it off. These are guns I own and have owned. Mostly more affordable/entry level type doubles compared to many of yalls. Grulla 216 roundbody in 16 ga. Belgium guild gun circa 1880's. 16 ga. Stolen errrr bought from Mark Larson. She may not be a heavily engraved beauty but she feels oh so good in my hands. Husqvarna Model 44 circa early 1880's. 16 ga. of course. Also acquired from Mark Larson.

Hi all, very nice guns and wonderful backgrounds. My pics are pretty plain, background is boring (hope the subject is not). The pics were taken for insurance purposes, thus everything is the same. Also, pardon the poor photography...I suck at it. Anyway here's mine. That wood should be stripped and refinished with oil ... what kind of wood is that? Teak? ...the table, not the gun.

Chuck, yes, it is teak but with the rain here on the Atlantic coast and the 40 deg C in summer it does suffer a bit best

Ummmm, I don't want to start a fight but that William Evans is mine! Maybe I should add "at least for the last 2 or 3 years"?
I did a triple take when I saw the photo and then actually had to drag the whole blessed thing out.
Thanks for keeping me alert!

Thanks for keeping me alert! Might be. I sold one a couple of years ago. I can't afford to own them all at one time, so I try to own all of them at some time. Thus they come and go, but their photos stay in my photo library. There are photos in my post of a couple without title because I either have sold them or they are in the safe at my son's house and I could not remember from their photo who made them. No desire to mislead anyone, these are just eye candy shots from guns that grace or have graced my safes.

Barrel Browner, thanks for posting some truly interesting and unique eye candy. I have a fondness and real appreciation for "miniature" firearms too. There is a local museum that has quite a display of working miniature firearms, from doubles, lever action rifles, pistols, and machine guns. Absolutely amazing stuff.

What's the hairy looking material in the case? That might be "tow" which, in the old days, was made of flax, hemp or maybe jute. A wad of it was twisted onto a jag for scrubbing the bores, in the same manner that we today use patches. This was commonly used in the m/l era, and I assume carried over into the early breechloading era as well. SRH
May God bless America and those who defend her.

Stan, thanks for explaining "tow".
Krakow - I learned the same thing from my grandfather. I always keep a length of twine in my pack for fire starting. Stuff found at old time hardware stores.

It looks like that 20-ga. Sterlingworth Special of yours was engraved by Bob Strosin who is a former president of FEGA.

What a stunner! Papes are always nice guns, it seems. "The Purdy of the North" was an appropriate title. Is that a Perke's Patent ejector?

I had no idea that a Husky could be so nice. The engraving is of the highest quality. I would love to have a set of good quality pictures of that gun's engraving for my files.

OWD Yes the rest of the Jannsen matches up! Must start a thread to use the boards expertise to see who actually made this thing. Jannsen Freres was just a retailer. All the best Skeeterbd

Daryl Halquist I went through the Jannsen with a fine tooth comb today, as did my gunsmith, but we could not find any engraver's signature or initials anywhere. However I took some photos of a gun left for many years in storage at my 'smith's! (The Jannsen is mine but not the following gun) Black powder proofs only. All the best Skeeterbd

Skeeterbd,
The style of engraving on your Jannsen is known as Corombelle. This from my engraving glossary: A style of decorative engraving usually found on high quality Belgian shotguns that is attributed to Belgian born engraver Hyppolite Corombelle (1871-1943). The Corombelle style of engraving incorporates a background fine English scroll over which is superimposed bouquets of flowers, ribbons and festoons. Hyppolite Corombelle was the father of the late Lyson Corombelle (1894-1971) who was a highly respected gun engraver in her own right. He was also the founder of an engraving school in Bologna, Italy where he lived until his death.
Depending on the vintage of your gun, It may have actually been engraved by one of the Corombelles. I have seen that style engraved on quite a few guns including my Garbi 200 and yours is exceptionally well executed.

Thanks for solving that mystery. The date I have for the proof of that gun varies from 1932 to 1949. Either way the Corombelles might well have had a hand in it.
All the best

That's okay, you can have some screw-in chokes installed, get the ones that extend out from the muzzle so that you don't need a special tool to change them out . And with that blasphemy out of my system, all I can say is: WHAT A BEAUTIFUL GUN! Steve

Rockdoc I fell in love with this rather mature lady when I was just 20 in fact before I met and married my wife. It is often said by my sons I would have an extremely large dilemma if the house where to catch fire, which one of the two would I carry out of the building first! Gun or Wife? I do hope I am never called to choose, because the decision would only be made in the last seconds. Damascus

That Jannsen is great. Thanks for the additional pics.
Nice Powell. I have one very much like it. It's finished a little differently.
What's serial # range on your's?
Thanks

Nice to see the 16ga. well represented. A couple of simple boxlocks. Top is a J.V. Needham. Bottom is a William Powell & Son. Please forgive the blue collar Sweet 16 in the middle. Matt

Nah - it's not a conversion.
That's Powell's No. 1 Patent Action - aka The Lifter.

Like I said, that's Powell's No. 1 Patent Action.
Those aren't nipple holes, either. They have to do with how the lifting toplever works.
Bar in wood means nothing.
Try Googling it a bit next time. It's amazing what you can learn with 5 minutes of effort.

If I remeber correctly, that very gun or one just like it may have been featured in the Double Gun Journal sometime around spring of 1995/96. It was a string of articles about British guns from A to Z. Of course, this was featured with the P's. About 5 of them if I remember correctly. Purdey, Powell, and 3 others. My memory is good but not that good.
It was spring of 1998. The guns featured were Purdey, Powell, Pape, Paton & S.M.Patrick. The powell featured was just like the one here but not as nice.

OWD, I'm searching for all info on Powell's No.1 patent guns/rifles. Can you share your serial number and Powell'sPatent number?

OWD But admit it, it looks right like a conversion. Of course, if you look closer, and reason a bit, it's clear that the things that look like former nipple holes are in fact housings for the opening lever pin. But they do look like nipple holes, especially with these curved fences about them! Nice gun, anyway. And the firing pins as 'loaded' indicators... how cute!
