I had no idea that a Husky could be so nice. The engraving is of the highest quality. I would love to have a set of good quality pictures of that gun's engraving for my files.

Yes the rest of the Jannsen matches up!

Must start a thread to use the boards expertise to see who actually made this thing. Jannsen Freres was just a retailer.

I went through the Jannsen with a fine tooth comb today, as did my gunsmith, but we could not find any engraver's signature or initials anywhere.

However I took some photos of a gun left for many years in storage at my 'smith's! (The Jannsen is mine but not the following gun)

Black powder proofs only.

Skeeterbd,

The style of engraving on your Jannsen is known as Corombelle. This from my engraving glossary: A style of decorative engraving usually found on high quality Belgian shotguns that is attributed to Belgian born engraver Hyppolite Corombelle (1871-1943). The Corombelle style of engraving incorporates a background fine English scroll over which is superimposed bouquets of flowers, ribbons and festoons. Hyppolite Corombelle was the father of the late Lyson Corombelle (1894-1971) who was a highly respected gun engraver in her own right. He was also the founder of an engraving school in Bologna, Italy where he lived until his death.

Depending on the vintage of your gun, It may have actually been engraved by one of the Corombelles. I have seen that style engraved on quite a few guns including my Garbi 200 and yours is exceptionally well executed.

Thanks for solving that mystery. The date I have for the proof of that gun varies from 1932 to 1949. Either way the Corombelles might well have had a hand in it.
