I'm presently sat in front of the fire, full of Christmas dinner and a few beers(and pernods) with my prezzies, Diggorys excellent British boxlock gun & rifle book and Crudgington and Bakers the British shotgun vol 3 (1891-2011) Total gun porn, judging by what I've seen so far I'm in for a damn good read. What did you get this year ?

Just had the quail and dumplings my wife made for brunch this morning. I am in the basement with the rest of the dogs - six French Brittanys. It just so happens that I read some Diggory this morning too. I am reading cover-to-cover the Double Gun Journal, Winter 2007, Volume 14, Issue 4. It has an article about British gun auctions and and the merchandise being auctioned. There is also a small brag by Dig tucked in the article. He tells about winning the 28 gauge shooting contest with a gun he never saw before that day. This issue also has a Sherman Bell article about British muzzle loading rifles. I don't have a particular interest in rifles but this interested me. I am about 2/3rds of the way through the issue. I have resolved to read every issue from the Premiere through Volume 17 Issue 4 cover to cover, ads, editorials, poetry (ugh), everything.
After the quail and dumplings cool down the bird dogs will get the leftovers. My son says that food is like crack to dogs. My wife's quail and dumplings doubly so I think.
For the benefit of our company I set out in a three gun display rack an AH Fox Philly XE 12, a Philly XE 16, and a Flues 4E 16.
There is an inch or two of snow outside and I will shortly have to rise and push it off the driveway, sidewalks, and porch. We had a white Christmas.

No firearm or hunting related presents this year. I did receive a box of Oliva V Melanio #4 cigars. Smoked one this morning one while the my setters ran and played in the fresh fallen snow.

Now that is a Christmas Display that puts the nicest tree to shame.
After Midnight Mass with the youngest at 21 we now sleep late and have bacon and waffles for lunch
My display are my three best girls (Setter, Lab, & wife) curled up together on the sofa. That Setter sure is gorgeous, and the wife too.

Several coffe mugs with photos of my springers taken over the years. My wife lifted them from my hunting journal ... a sweet present.

Lucky guy. I get to smoke one of my usual El Cheapos. Early morning pheasant hunt was postponed till this afternoon because the phone was ringing off the hook with relatives. The idiots know I hunt and I could really care less about about their kids new video games.

All my girls are at home and we had sausage and Christmas cookies for breakfast. I got a copy of the "British Bore Rifle" which is likely to lead to a much more expensive gift for myself down the road. A movie is cued up to play while the turkey is in the oven.

My family is having their gathering next Satuday, but since I'm single, my neighbor invited me over for dinner this evening. Not sure of the entire menu, but I did hear smoked pheasant was the appetizer. Thank God for great neighbors. I'm also expecting a nice present in the mail soon. Just purchased a sub 6 lb. 1911 Ithaca Flues 16 gauge in 95 % original condition from gunsinternational. My first gun was a flues 12 gauge my grandfather gave me over 40 years ago. That gun is long gone but this gun looks like an exact copy(only lighter).

What we almost DIDN'T have for Christmas dinner this year was the turkey. One of my sons lives next door and was to inject and fry the bird this year. After defrosting it in the frig he placed it in the kitchen sink last night to get it ready for frying today. While outside making sure the deep fryer was ready for action, he and his wife heard a 'ka-thunk' in the kitchen.
Daisey, the German Shorthair he and his wife keep in their house had liberated the turkey from the sink and eaten most of it. With 20 family members coming to dinner here today, things were looking bleak. No store in town was open at 11:00 on Christmas Eve. Luckily, his mother in law had a 12lb. bird in her freezer, and todays's dinner was saved.
I don't think we'd really have missed the turkey today anyhow with all the rest of the feast!...Geo

AWESOME!!!! Excellent! Great charitable organization. We'll be expecting some good photos soon, John. I received some Drake Mossy Oak Bottomland camo, a jacket and skull cap. I have found that pattern to work better in the flooded timber than any of my other patterns. Plan to put it to good use here and in Arkansas soon. Gave my wife a diamond ring, to replace the one she lost the stone from (in our yard). When she opened it she exclaimed, "Oh honey, you need to buy you a new shotgun!" Yep. SRH
May God bless America and those who defend her.

Santa brought me an original Browning Superposed Superlight 20b like new with the narrow forearm. Can't wait to try her on the Ruffed Grouse next season. 1970 gun. IC/M. Have to admit, bought it for myself. I have a weakness for Browning Superposed!

Geo, the story of the GSP and the turkey will long be remembered as family legend more than anything else that happened this Christmas. We have a similar legend. I had a wild turkey thawing in the sink and asked my mother-in-law to keep an eye on it as the late Rosce, my Aussie, was in the house and I had to go to the store. She delegated the duty to my 10 year old daughter. Well, you know what happened. My MIL caught Roscoe dead to right gnawing on the bird. I smoked it over night unaware of what happened. She managed to trim the chew marks off the back end of the bird. The next day, my mother-in-law ate turkey without telling a soul what had happened. It was years later that she let the cat out of the bag. Merry Christmas. Gil

I got to spend another Christmas with my whole family.
My folks are 82 and 83 and my pa's health has been up and down like a yo-yo the past couple of years. This year he's doing OK and that's great.
We spent some time looking at old photos of past hunting and fishing trips and telling bigger and bigger lies about the ones that got away.
The Queen (wifey) gave me the go-ahead for a five day pheasant and bunny hunting trip in South Dakota. We're leaving tomorrow so that's a good a gift as I could ask for.
Merry Christmas to all,
tunes

Christmas is still mostly a kids day at my house. I did get the David McKay Brown book. Since I'll probably never actually be able to afford one of these - I can at least dream.

Hi all, great posts and great pics! I hope all of you and yours had a wonderful Christmas day. Here's one of my gifts, I'm enjoying a fine cigar after a great Christmas dinner. The cigar was a gift from Wade Burns, thanks Wade, you've got great taste! Merry Christmas all! Greg

Greg You look as relaxed and comfortable there as in the field.
Santa (Lynn) got me half a dozen hunting books, including a Ben Williams and a Par Wray book, both on upland hunting.

Looks like Cold Steel is the latest company knocking off the Russell Canadian Belt Knife....but with modern materials. I must have been a good boy this past year, as Santa left me one under tree. Grateful for what I received, but I was really kinda wishing for an early 1950s high grade 20GA Superposed with original unobtainium longish barrels. So.....I'll have to be a gooder boy in AD2013 and hope again.

Ian; I share your passion for the 50's Superposed. I'm rather fond of the Grade III (Fighting Cock) and the Grade IV (Fox and Hound) with Germanic style engraving. Original Grade IV's are rare and expensive. Good luck finding what you want.

Well Buzz, who knows? Maybe the anticipation and "dare to hope" will come to pass and my unobtainium 20GA Super that only Santa could craft will compliment the visions of sugar-plums. Stranger things have happened.

My wife and I are enjoying the bottle of wine Greg (GJW) gave us. My wife one upped me this year. I had always wanted a 50s era Rolex. She bought me one with an original ostrich band, plus a brand new Oyster Perpetual. They look odd next to my old Timex! The other item is a money clip with a Guinea fowl I had engraved on it after my trip to Africa if anyone is wondering what the heck it is.

I spent half a day with my father just listening to him recount things that happened 40-50-60-70 plus years ago. Best present I could have every asked for. Time is the one thing you can never get back or spend too much with family. I always end every visit with a hug and every phone call telling my father I love him. Family is what brings you into this world and family is all you leave behind. All you toys, all your money, all your important things will be gone but family will endure for decades if not forever.

Santa left me a nearly unfired Army & Navy 12 gauge made by Webley & Scott in 1924, cased with all original accessories. Weight of 6 lbs 6 oz with 28" barrels as nicely struck as I've ever seen. Almost all case color and charcoal blue. Pretty nice of him--even the stock dimensions are perfect! Just as good was the pecan and pumpkin pies my wife made from scratch. Best in America!

My 93 year old Mormon skeet shooting buddy gave me a 1913 12g Sterlingworth; just under 7#, 28" barrels, 2 5/8" chamber, .724 bore, choke .012 right/.024 left, tight and on-face but remote repair to the head of the stock. Dan May has the gun now to check the repair as I intend to make it my go to big country pheasant whacker with B&P MB Classic 1 1/8 oz. at 1330 fps 5s. Are those common choke constrictions for a Fox? Byron can see the other side of Jordan from where he's standing but shot a 23 last week with his Browning and a hole-in-one in 2012! We're respectfully trying to convert each other, but he claims he'll put in a good word with Joseph if he gets to Glory first
