If you Google "chopper lump barrels" you'll see pics.

I tried that with another search engine and nothing came up. I'll try it again with Google. Thanks

Short answer. Each barrel is made from a forging. The forging is a solid rod with a "hangy down" lump that looks sorta like a hatchet. The rod portion then is made into the main part of the barrel and the hangy down part is made into the breach and lumps; each barrel is all one solid piece. Two semi-finished chopper lump barrels are joined to make the barrel assembly for a double gun. The chopper term is derived form the look of the rough forging; hatchet = chopper.

One would hope not to find a breach in the breech. Elsewise, when one shoots the gun, one might end up with a mess in his breeches.

Hi Larry:

Your comment regarding the breach vs. breech was spot on! Lol

I get the same jolt out of people referring to barrel "breaks" vs. barrel brakes!Lol

I do enjoy reading your posts!

Stay well,

No, he was, conveniently, gone long enough to hide the evidence. It must have been something though, my sister still cracks up at the mention of "ooopa!"
