I have an old, well-work Parker hammer double. Old "hardware store" grade gun. 12-gauge, 30" Damascus barrels. Still locks up as tightly as the day it was made. One hammer screw is missing about 25% of it's head.

Years ago the late Oscar Gaddy did some minor repair work on this gun for me. With him gone, I'm not sure who to turn to.

I expect that Brownell's will have screws that will work, but I would prefer to get an old one if someone still has them. A shiney new blue screw is going to stick out on this gun like lipstick on a pig (no offense to my fine old Parker) wink

TIA

Tom

Keith Kearcher of Bend, Oregon used to have some of these. Try http://members.toast.net/keithkearcher/. Other than that, I'd definitely suggest you go to The Parker Gun Collectors website, sign up and post you needs on their chat board--I'm sure you'd find something. http://www.parkerguns.org/. There is a gentleman who advertises in The Parker Pages (their magazine) who makes new hammer screws identical to your old ones. I don't think it would be difficult to properly age and even distress a new screw to make it almost impossible to detect it as a replacement. The problem with finding an old screw is Parker didn't seem to have a standard for them, either shape or thread size.

Good luck.

My father had a lost hammer and screw replaced on a hammer-gun which by Keith Kearcher. He did such a good job on the replacement I could not tell which was original and replacement. They looked as if they had always belonged together and you had to look very carefully to see a difference.

I recommend Keith Kearcher as a real craftsman

It would be a great move to send your gun to Larry Schuknecht in N.Y. He's a great guy, very talented wood worker and metal smith. He could make an exact replacement and also take care of any other issues you might have. Larry's shop name is "Dutchman wood works".

Tom,

+1 on Larry.

A pleasure to work with. As said, very competent in both wood and metal (will share examples if needed). I'm told first hand that this is a good time to get jobs in his shop.

Shoot straight,

Bird
