I still have a couple sets, one 6" and one 24" set. For gun stuff, either dial or digital will do. I prefer tools well made. No China stuff. Swiss, German, U.S., Japan, and English are all good.
Agree- I grew up using, and still prefer in my gun room Brown & Sharpe, Starrett and Lufkin- I have a German Helios dial readout vernier, stainless steel, as dependable as a Rolex-- I would rather French kiss Monica Lewisnski in front of Macy's in NYC at High Noon than ever own or use any of the China made crap- but then, I also believe that "Wall-Mart sucks"!!

Everything you need to know about Precision Measurement.

These guys are honest, will tell you when you can spend less and what's worth your $$.

They give high marks to 6" Mitutoyos Digitals.

FWIW I bought 2 sets of Harbor Freights 6" Digitals calipers on sale for $9.99. They switch from standard to metric. They give the same readings as my Mitutoyo and NSK (Fowler)6" dials.

They give high marks to 6" Mitutoyos Digitals.

My problem lies in reconciling my gross habits with my net income.

I bought the same ones from Harbor Freight. Compared it to my Starrett dial indicator and it is the same through-out the whole 6 inch range. I use it for quick readings in my lathe, reading between the jaws for lengths of firing pins, etc.

Just have to be careful and not let any dirt get between the racks, but that is for all vernier gages.
