Good afternoon everybody. I recently purchased a .410 sxs and I figured this would be the place to get some accurate information. The little .410 is not a high end gun like I have read about in many of the topics but it seems like a pretty nice piece. It is what I believe to be a Stevens 530. It was sold to me as a Stevens 311 but certainly is not. It has 26" barrels f/f (actually a little tighter then full when measured) it has a checkered stock and forend with really nice grain walnut. The receiver has a flying duck and some marsh grass, the opposite side says J. Stevens arms company Chicopee Falls Mass USA patented April 20, 1915. It weighs a little over six#. The left barrel is marked 410 gauge and that is it as far as markings on the barrels. The barrels are rounded all the way to the receiver unlike any other stevens I have ever seen. So after all that I would like to ask is it a 530, is there any way to determining actual manafacture date by serial#, what is safe to shoot in gun 2 1/2"- 3", and any other information anyone might have about this particular model of Stevens shotgun ( about how many made, quality, etc.)I am trying my damndest to post a couple pictures but this site seems to be getting the best of me.
Thanks Red
