I saw a SW with an exposed hingepin very similiar to the tell tale Parker hingpin. Is this an alteration? If this is original, how common were these? Do they demand any sort of premium? Anyone have one of these guns?

Thanks

Original to a small percentage of early production SWs; referred to as Sterlingworth pin gun. Have heard that leftover action bars from Philadelphia Gun Co. were used. I'm sure they demand a premium; whether they command it would, I think, depend a good deal of condition.

I have one of the Philadelphia Arms hinge pin guns (1904), and from across the room, it looks just like a Parker. Story I heard/read was that Parker sued Ansley for using the design, so he changed to the more typical Fox frame profile. I don't think I have ever seen a post-Philadelphia Arms graded Fox with the Parker pin, but have seen several hinge pin Sterlingworths. I, for one, would pay a bit more for a hinge pin Sterly than for a standard Sterly, but not as much as I would pay for a comparable Parker VH. I kinda doubt in today's market that a pin Sterly would bring Trojan prices for a gun in comparable condition. Researcher should be along shortly to enlighten us.

If Parker DIDN'T sue them, they should have! Kinda makes Joe(toothbrush-head) Biden look like an honorable guy, doesn't it?

I've got one - with ejectors and 30" bbls. It's nice.

They're pretty common. There seem to a handful of them on the market all the time.

Every one of them is marked "Rare."

As for a premium - you can ask for one and you may get it. I wouldn't pay one, though.

About the first 12000 12-gauge Sterlingworths were "PIN GUNS", they are hardly rare!
