I am trying to find out just exactly what this is. It is marked Brevet Nagant and nothing else. It only has one proof mark, a crown/V, like a London view mark but in an oval. It is sixteen gauge. The left barrel is rifled in the conventional way and the right barrel has straight rifling. Oh, and it has a saddle ring, bayonet lug and long range military style rifle sights.

That's what I was thinking. That'd be fun to play around with.

I don't know how may attempts it took you to capture the rifling but it is a capital effort. I'd like to see the "Crown" over "V" to see if it is the German on-hand mark or possibly someone's trademark. I'm sure it is a cousin of the one on the following link:

Very similar. If this one is #336 and mine is #1403, where are all the rest of these? I will have a photo of the view mark tomorrow. Thanks Larry

Similar action to the double barreled Nagant rolling block "horse pistols" tested by Mexico during the Porfirio Diaz regime (1880's?). I've never seen a long gun with that exact action before, although multi-barreled Belgian "volley guns" used a somewhat similar action.

As a matter of fact I got a .32 rim Pieper fire volley gun from the same source. Although it is marked in a more conventional fashion. The seller knew nothing about either one.

Somewhere I have an ad for these. They were meant for duck and goose, canardiere.

Type 700 from the 1893 catalog. It sold for 300 francs in .22 long and 325 francs in .297/300. He also offered a 12ga in 1881 for 1500 francs with a claimed range of 150 meters with a spread of 3 meters.
