Forgive my ignorance, but what is jug choking?

Adam, it is a process whereby metal is honed out of the bore for a distance of maybe 2-3 inches, back from the muzzle. The bore at the muzzle is left undisturbed. This allows the shot charge to expand when it reaches the opened area, but then is constricted when passing out the muzzle. The difference between the inside diameter of the larger, relieved area and the smaller, inside diameter of the bore at the muzzle creates the choke effect. It does not matter that the shot charge had just enlarged before being constricted, the choke effect is still there.

It is a process as old as muzzzleloading shotguns themselves.

If I'm not mistaken the Winchester 21 skeet gun is like jug choked and then flared to the muzzle.

I could be wrong, but was under the impression the Win Skeet choke was like the one illustrated as "Special Skeet Choke", ie a light choke, then a flare, no jugging involved.
What is shown as the conical or "American" choke is also very often referred to as a "Taper" choke.
The "Bored" choke is more often called a "Conical-Paralell" or simply conventional choke.

I thought the same thing when I saw the pics.

I am not so worried about the chokes. The gun would be used for quail hunting so cylinder/cylinder isn't too bad. I am just worried about the POI.

Stop thinking about it and just shoot it . The more you think the more you miss. Had a Browning B25 in the shop that had been cut down fron 30" to 25" for some reason , it was like a hose pipe ,practically impossible to miss . A great gun for shooting flushes .

A 20g cylinder bore could exterminate half the quail population. Put it on a board for POI, if it lays them over eachother acceptably, keep it if you like it. I can't think of a better choke... for the first shot anyway. I'd prefer a modified second barrel, but hell, half my second shots are in desperation anyway. If you keep the gun and find yourself wanting a tighter second barrel, have it sleeve choked, jug choked or screw choked, or even backbored to get some choke. If it's cut down, screw choking won't devalue it further...I think it would bring back some value to a prospective buyer-shooter (but not fuddy duddy suido collectors).

Well you snooze you lose. I called up George Caswell today to buy the gun but it just sold. I should have acted sooner. Oh well. Thanks for yalls help anyway!

You really need an antiquated hammer gun there, Adam?? They undoubtedly add some complexity to your game.
