Full day for an old guy today. Youngest son (grown and gone thank heavens) and I got up early and took advantage of the GA special early Teal season this morning. Strange to see ducks setting their wings and coming in to decoys on Ocean Pond amid the mosquitos and without the presence of the myriads of Coots normally on the pond during the 'real' duck season. Those little suckers are FAST; my son outshot me to his unseemly enjoyment!
This afternoon we enjoyed yet another barn-burner of a dove shoot. Limits all over the field including us; got my shootin' eye back this afternoon. Our young local game warden joined us with his own son on the boy's 1st dove shoot. It has been a fantastic 1st season for dove for us down here. One rain-out last saturday where we abandoned a great field, but every other shoot has been great.
I've been using my Remington 16ga model 1900 with 30" barrels all this season and used it this morning on the Teal with Bismuth Classic loads I stockpiled a few years ago. I don't always want ejectors, but they're nice on a busy dove field.
This evening when I got home from the dove shoot I finalized a deal to buy a 12ga Meriden A J Aubrey with 32" barrels. It is a little rough but very shootable and has clean bores with Full and Full chokes. It's my 1st Meriden and 1st gun with the long barrels. I can't wait to try it in a duck blind; I figure I'll be six inches closer than I normally am to the target with those long barrels. I almost feel sorry for the birds...Geo

You Georgia boys are killing me with all of these dove shooting reports. Our season opens next Sat. but the farm we normally shoot has unharvested peanuts.
Thanks for sharing.

That really sounds like a fun day! Teal and doves, man! We had another good day today with the doves, too, George. Shot sunflower fields again. Limits for everybody that could shoot. I really enjoy the early morning shoots this time of year, it is soooo much cooler than the afternoons. I've been shooting the 20 ga. 687 SPII Sporting pretty well, lately. I ended the first season today with a total of 101 doves, almost 7 limits. Pretty good, but a little behind last year's pace, which was 119 in the first season. Looking forward to my birthday now. Second season comes in on that day. SRH

Geo,Stan, Y'all have had some great shoots. Teal and dove sound like a real treat. Last Saturday in the a.m., we loaded up on titty bream before the barn burner shoot--birds came in waves. Tonite it'll be grits, slaw and fried fish. Birds in freezer til kids come home for the holidays. Gil
