I just bought an 1872 catalog and it is pictured there and described as you have said it. Thanks.
I have now determined that this was a test gun for WRA since they did not make 10 bores. It is engraved "WRA & Co" on top rib. There is another described in Stadt's book- a 14 gauge.

What do you mean by "Test Gun"? What about it being a one off they ordered for a customer?

Did WRA ever make their own SxS hammerguns? I thought Scott made them.

This Winchester is a Scott:

I'm 99.9% sure this Winchester is too (doesn't this look like your's):

Interesting. I would think that little fact would attract the attention of Winchester collectors. Their double hammer guns were either Scotts or Bonehills with the Scott's being the higher grade guns. I don't know if any other English gunmakers made them for Winchester. I think that it is the Cody museum who have the Winchester records. It may be worth contacting them. Lagopus.....

I did contact Cody and spoke with the curator. he said they have production records and since the gun is a Scott he couldn't help.
but someone had referred me to Stadt's book and i bought one on line. great photos. and the description matches my gun.
But the gun was not a contract gun like they sold out of the NY store. it is a Scott. none of those English contract guns were 8 bores anyway nor did they have the underlever. it also came to my seller from Dick Morgan who worked for WRA as head of Experimental.

Winchester contracted with several English companies for hammer guns.
