Hello,

I have a 28 ga sxs that shoots its barrels at different POI, kind of crossed. It's a fixed choke, SK1 and IC. I don't seem to find a gunsmith to be able to tell if something can be done to bring them together. Do you have any recommendations for somebody that may be able to solve the problem?
Thank you.

Kirk Merrington would be a good place to start.

RB shoots 4" to the left and 5" low, LB shoots 1.5" to right and low. At 20 yards.

Chuck, Bob tried, but unfortunately he couldn't help. There is not enough meat on the barrels to open up the chokes and correct the POI.
Do you think Briley's could help? I talked with a lady(technical support) from Briley's who said that they can put in thin eccentric chokes. They needed only the barrel and my POI trial. What amazed me is that she said they don't even need to shoot the barrels as they can calculate exactly how much to correct the POI from my info then cut this into the barrels.I am not confident that the lady knew what this job would take, although it sounded like she did.

You might confer with Mike Orlen about putting in soldered choke sleeves of more restriction and then working on them to get the POI and pattern you want. The vertical change might be made by either straightening the barrels (if curved) or a stock bend adjustment. If you go with the stock bending, I'd do that to get the vertical correction first and verify by shooting, then move onto the lateral adjustments in the chokes. But talking it out with Mike or whoever gets the job is needed.

BTW, take a look down your barrels and see if there is any curvature downward of the barrels. I've seen them curved up and down on various guns. It can easily be changed by bending as I recently did this to straighten a set bent by damage.

I also suggest talking with Mike Orlen and forgetting about Briley's. This is far enough outside the realm of Briley's "usual" work (screw in choke tubes) that I would not trust them with it. They tend to have a habit of really screwing up "custom" work where they have to analyze a problem and think out a solution. I have been there and done that, as have others here. Call Mike Orlen, tell him your problem, I just got back a barrel job from him that I was well pleased with. 413-256-1630, or fax 413 253 5665.

Thank you very much for your suggestions.
I happened to find out that Montana Long Guns is almost my neighbor. I will visit Tom next Friday and shoot the gun for POI with him, then see what options there are. He sounded very knowlegeable and reassuring on the phone.
Chuck, I think your idea is very good. It might be the only thing to do as the barrels are not very thick and existent chokes quite open.
ChiefShotguns, info like the one you provided is what I need. I would have sent the barrels to Briley's as next step.
Eventually I will see what Tom at MontanaLG suggests.
Thanks again,
Justin

If you're in Montana, Steven Hughes mentioned Heckman's or some name similar as a barrel expert in his book on double shotguns.
