I stumbled across this yesterday and could not leave it in the shop. This is what I think I know.

16ga, 76 cm barrels choked IM, weak blueing but no dents or dings, bright bores, marked PRIMA Krupp Stahl, ESSEN. Chambers measure about 2 5/8".

Non ejector, four lock ups, two under lugs, a concealed cross bolt, and a hidden fourth fastener. Approx. 80% scroll engraving with arcaded fences, scalloped receiver, and cocking indicators. Several of the screws have been turned, but no apparent damage. A sliver of wood is missing from the fore end and someone has added a 1/4" wood extension to the stock. Otherwise it appears original to me.

Steven Dodd Hughes describes a very similar gun in one of his books.

I would appreciate any information you can give me about the gun, the maker, etc. Thanks for the help.

Lovely Westley Richard's Dollhead with square crossbolt. I would have let it follow me home too. The A&D gesteck/parts kit/in the white sporting weapon began life in Suhl and was imported into Ferlach in late 1910 and was completed in early 1911. Are there any initials in the Doll's head well or forward of the flats and near the forend hanger? Krupp tube steel may be Belgian sourced. Can you post an image of the Krupp steel stamp? Do you find the 2283 stamp anywhere else?

Kind Regards,

Raimey,

Thanks for your response. The 2283 is also on the bottom of the right tube just forward of the flats. On the lower rib, between the flats and the forend hanger, there are the numbers 1293, followed by a lower case g. The "g" is bigger than the numbers. There is also a 46 stamped on the bottom of the left tube.

I will try and get an image of the Krupp stamp a post it later.

Thanks for your help. Milton

Milton,

The ah 1293g is the weight of the tubeset in Kg at proof. I think the intent was akin to the Belgian where the tubeset could be weighed to see if any had been chopped off the end. With the 2283 I wonder if it began life at a talented mechanic in the town of Zella Sankt Blasii. I can't remember when the doll's head was protected, maybe Oct. of 1865? I think it to be referred to as passive? And did Westley have the rights to the bolted doll's head extension possibly in 1871?

Kind Regards,

That looks to be a Ferlach version of the Krupp steel stamp. Marcus/Markus Ogris was a contemporary of Ferdinand Lebeda of A.V. Lebeda & Söhne, Gustav E. Fükert, Johann Fückert and others who were in full swing by the early 1870s. Some give the Marcus Ogris either retailed the most or made/offered the most in Ferlach from the turn of the 20 Century to just after WWI( I guess proofhouse records would validate this). He had a patent or shared patent 18567 for the lockup on a tipping weapons from 1904. There's a Ogris cat who is a master gunsmith in/near Ferlach(near Klagenfurt??) that is more than likely a descendant and I bet might have some info: http://www.ogris-waffen.at/index.html

Looks a lot like mine, especially the top of the action, engraving is better... but in the same style with similar coverage.
I've seen one single shot rifle marked M. Ogris, but have no further info.
