The lettering looks spot-on; I'm guessing a rolled stamp rather than engraved. The matting on the top-rib looks plausable too.

So, Kofoed, what does it all mean? When is a Sauer a Sauer? Is it underhanded to market this example, or Jani's, as a Sauer product or do we fall back on the fact that very few longarms, with the exception of straight-line production guns, were totally made at a specific gunmaker's shop. When in fact, Suhl was actually just one big gunshop with intricate sourcing. I realize that Clay's example is more of a sourcing triangle of Suhl, Weipert & Stuttgart.

The ill-fitting Sauer barrels say it all; someone tried to retrofit an existing pair on the action.

E. Schmidt & Habermann peddled a rear scalloped frame hammergun but I don't know if they made it or sourced it(from RIA):

Jani's acquistion below for comparison.

On Clay's acquisition I'm still waiting to here if there is slop between the flats and frame.

Its pretty common thing when "new" home fitted barrels and "old" action have no proof marks and s/n's. Though old time Sauer' bbls have 2 places where s/n located, one place is on the left tube under fore-end and second place - left side of the second hook.

Another Sauer metal puzzle. Serialized Sauer tubeset, which I would guess was accompanied by a certificate, and also I guess divorced from it's original frame or would have Sauer peddled such a gesteck to some other Austro-Hungarian maker?
