I have not been able to get my hands on this gun so I don't have much in the way of info which I realize is far from ideal. I guess at this point I just want some info on the maker.

Joseph Baker and Sons? I believe it is a Birmingham gun, BLE, straight stock with moderately figured wood, 28" IC/ Mod though the shop says the barrels are not original to the gun. The receiver is freshly blued frown and the barrels appear to have been recently finished as well. I only hope that they weren't hot blued. I should add that this gun is at an extremely attractive price point which spooks me a bit given its great, clean looks.

Anyway, I can find nothing online referring to a Joseph Baker, any help? I will try to find some pics and get them posted.

Thanks,
Nick

I can find only two Joseph Bakers. One at Rowley Regis in Staffordshire circa 1854; so seems unlikely, and Joseph Baker, Norwich Street, Fakenham, Norfolk 1890 to 1905 and then trading as Joseph Baker & Son from the same address until 1909. If that's your man then it helps to date the gun also to between 1905 and 1909. It would probably have been made in Birmingham and finished to Baker's specifications and retailed by him. What do the proof marks on the barrels say? This was in the period before compulsory Nitro Proof and would only have been proofed for nitro on request. Lagopus.....

Great info, thank you. I am supposed to have pics of the proof marks on the way. I will say that this gun supposedly has new barrels so surely they would be marked. This is meant to be a shooter but take a look at the below exterior images.

Certainly looks like a nice gun. If it has had new barrels then the original proof marks which would tie the date down will not be present. If you could still give details of the new proof marks; if any, some more information may come to light. Thanks. Lagopus.....
