Joseph Asbury Birmingham barrel maker to the trade in Weaman's Row.

Hellis made few guns in house at London. Most(and all A&D's) were made by the trade in Birmingham and the example (2 inch) shown above with Greener top lever works and slide safety (in lieu of the better Scott spindle and rocker safety) were the norm for Hellis A&D's. I have seen original order forms from Hellis to Birmingham makers for dozens of A&D's from the time period in question. A Hellis may sell for more than another gun from Birmingham because of Hellis' London address on barrel, even though the specific Hellis may be of lower quality--such as the lever works as stated above. This of course is not to belittle Greener top lever works as if they are fitted perfectly they will last for a long time--they just take less time to make and fit, therefore costing less from the trade.

This is the less often encountered Premiere model, a "best work" SLE of about 1921.

Yep, Franc, one of a pair that I use annually (at least) at the VC flurry event. I broke 60 targets in four minutes last fall and my pard did 59. We were lookin' good to win the event until the last team came along and gave us a classic thrashin'!!!

That's a slow flurry, Rocketman. We have guys regularly break 60 in 2 1/2 minutes at the UP Classic. That's a 1 man deal, although you can use as many guns and loaders as you want.

Said thrashing involved a couple of guys who were in the upper 70's. They both used M-21's with stuffers. Lets see, 60 clays in 2 1/2 minutes would be 96 in 4 minutes, if the pace wwas sustained. That is fast, no doubt about it. I don't claim to be fast or accurate - but I do claim to have fun!!!
