Very nice Tony. I think I like the colors on this better than how the Clarke turned out.

Yup. Getting better every time. You're getting fuller coverage and deeper colors each time.

Tony,
It looks like your case coloring is coming along well. I've been out of pocket for the past month, so I was glad to see that you're back on your feet and doing well.
Best

I think it's all down to me closing my eyes, turning 3 full circles and jumping up and down twice before each quench personally.

Tony: My understanding of re-casecoloring these old guns is that the process can sometimes change the original characteristics of the metal, for example soften the metal and sometimes even warp the metal. Have you run into any of these problems and if so what do you do to fix the problem and what can be done to protect yourself and the guns from any of these bad outcomes? Thx. Buzz

Hi Buzz. Warping usually takes place when you go way over the proper quenching temp and in the kiln itself. I've not had anything serious at all so far. I quench at 723 degrees C. There is all sorts of really bad advice out there with doing it higher and all sorts...the moment you do the moment I go out of my comfort zone. I'm also not heating for too long....1.5-2hrs tops so my case colours may not be as deep as others but then again I lesson the risk of major deformation.
Bottom line is it's risky to an extent and I usually risk my cheaper guns over anything expensive.
Cheers
T
