Just got this interesting French 12 Gauge SXS

No rib except the joining rib in the center of the barrels.

Anyone got info?

Thanks
Mike

Swamped rib. Pretty common on French and Belgian guns. I have a Manufrance ideal and a Belgian 'guild gun' with this rib arrangement. Saves weight...Geo

A good bit more "swamped" than even most swamped ribs. Assume there is a short, raised rib at the muzzle as well?

The Helice bolting system was invented by the French gunmaker Verney-Carron back in the 19th century. Time tested and reliable. V-C is still in business today. When the patent ran out, other French gunmakers began using the Helice system and so marking their guns. In many cases, Helice (which means screw or spiral) is the only "name" you'll find.

To wit: 'helice grip' means 'screw grip' or a cammed bolting system, if you will, as in 'inclined plane. What proof marks are present(?)and from where? Many of the 'helice grip' guns carry the 'triple proof' from St. Etienne, even though they are light weight guns; its more about the quality of the locking system and the bbls. strength than any suggestion they be shot with heavy loads ... rather, it is more a statement that they are QUITE sound & capable of withstanding more than the shooter, irrespective of his ammunition choice, if you care to put it in totally practical terms. You likely have a 'h***' for stout double that will make a dandy bird gun if it fits you or can be bent to do so.

Whots the rest of the gun look like? I may have it's cuz. A 'brother' would be numbered, yes?

Double proof, which is still plenty stout. I once owned a very nice Drevet-marked gun, sideplated boxlock 16. If I recall correctly from the discussion, someone indicated they were well-made guns--but then that tends to apply to the vast majority of French doubles.
