Strange but true. I've consulted some sources and empirical data suggests that there was a retail outlet in Liege or possibly a sourcing office for the likes of Jules Bury, Louis Christophe, A.J. Defourney and possibly other Belgian craftsmen. Also there appears to be some cross sourcing or relationship between Louis Christophe & Jules Bury. So we may not be much better off than before. But if any of the above is true it would go along way in explaining the quality of the few pieces we see as retailed by A.M. Mainwaring.
Kind Regards,

Andrew Jno. Hy. & Co. Ltd. Toledo steel works, Sheffield England.
They are listed under hammers in an 1895 source as an importer of goods into western Australia.
Proofed 1930. 16ga, nitro proofed with 65mm chambers. Controller of Proof was Adolphe Delcommune. At time of proof the barrels weighed 2.49lbs.

Love the beveled edge on that forward lump. Note how tightly the ejectors and articulated trigger pieces fit together. Sort of oozes quality. Just don't understand why someone would punch out the chambers on a gun like that.

Not to hijack this thread, but Period Paper is a great site! Thanks for the link. There are some fantastic hunting and sporting dog lithographs there.

The gun seems common on Belgian front. What are the marks on the receiver flats ? Henry Andrews steel was used on many Belgian guns.

Found this verbiage in a 1920 Advert:
"ARMES DE LUXE aux Maîtres-Armuriers GONDRÉ-MAINWARING 44, rue des Petits-Champs (Av. Opéra) Fusils d. HÀRISSÛN-HUSSEY Lofâ Superbes armes de LEBEAU-COURALLY"
Unsure of the spelling - GONDRÉ-MAINWARING
Seems August Lebeau was a staple for sourcing by the Paris firearms merchant contingent.
