I just bought one of the 96 actioned Swedish 9.3x57.
There is not much reloading data out there, would I be OK starting off with 358 Win data starting loads?
Anybody own one of these rifles? Lopad for it?
Cost $220.00 from Tradeex in Montreal. A lot of gun for the money.

I have not looked at my loading charts yet, but my gut tells me to say that .358 Win. pressures may be a bit high for your M-96. I believe the 9.3x57 has velocities at just over 2000 fps with 286 gr. bullet; while the .358 Win. goes about 2300 with 250 gr. Along with a substantial increase in pressure. I'd back off 10% at least to start, and see if the rifle shoots to the original sights.

Good luck.

Below is the data from cartridges of the world on 9x57. Probably were meant for a 98 action, as you can see it is very close to a 358 win. I have a carton of Kynoch 9x57 I purchased a while back, if you are interested in 4 or 5 packs (10 cartridges ea)245gr SP, think these use boxer primers but not sure, 25.00 box + shipping.

My book suggests a load of 43 gr. of 3031 with a 286 gr. RN bullet. I think it will be hard to get much in the way of bullets.

Yours is probably a 96 Swedish Mauser (?) and I'd take off 10% of that load. God bless your shoulder.

Lots of Speer 270 gr Sp bullets available. James 1 it is a 9.3 x 57, not the 9 x 57.
So far it looks like 44gr of 335 powder with the Speer 270 gr bullet might work, Recoil is a bit stiff, but primers looks fine, no pocket enlargement, I'll chronograph that load and if it comes in at around 2100 fps that will do fine. Thanks for the tips guys,
Mike

Lots and lots of data and good advice for the '96-actioned 9,3x57s at the Swedish Civilian Gunboard.

I've been using Varget in mid-40 grain charges and the relatively inexpensive 285 gr Prvi bullets with pleasant success in mine.

Thanks, Steve, I have Varget and I'll try that
I had excellent results in my 9.3x62 using AA2520, so I'll try that and work up...

There's a variety of loads for the 9.3x57 found on this site.
