Hi guys and thanks! In fact I was looking at this one. Just wondering about the maker. According to Carders book this is a maker, but I would like to know more the maker and this gun.
Thanks again!

Yeah, a cockeyed optimist. Me thinks they were a firearms merchant in Sarcelles but may have advertised as A.M. Mainwaring, Paris. Some may have used their name in the same sentence as Gastinne-Renette. Were G-R close or in Issy-les-Moulineaux??? Or did they have a factory there and then retailed in Paris where the money was.
Kind Regards,

Just for info...Cobb's gun had the chambers lengthened if that makes any difference.
With a fine gun on his arm, a man becomes a sporting gentleman, both on the field and off.

I would guess the longarm to wear Belgian proofmarks and to be from between the Wars. It is possible that A.M. Main-waring sourced both Belgian and French, with Fauré(Perin??)-Lepage(Henri)(of No. 8 Richelieu??) being a possibility till WWI. I think the probability of the longarm in question to have been sourced from Fauré-Lepage(Henri) is pretty low, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faur%C3%A9_Le_Page (copy & paste) , but with tube makers like Nicolas Bernard as an apprentice, I'm sure their reputation quickly floated to the top. 44 Rue - Des Petits - Champs Paris may have been the address of A.M. Mainwaring or one of their sources. Like many French makers little info seems to be available.
Kind Regards,
Raimey rse

O.K. all you A.M. Mainwaring fans, who was the successful one to rush and purchase this 83 year old Lithograph???: http://www.periodpaper.com/index.php/192...ing#descriptionDated 1928 I don't see the city Sarcelles, some 10 miles North of Paris; therefore, it may have been a shooting school or pigeon shooting area. G-R may have had a similar facility at Issy-les-Moulineaux. That is if all the Mainwaring names like Mainwaring & Cie at 65 Victor Emmanuel III Avenue, Paris are one in the same or heirs & assigns. Mainwaring & Cie seemed to peddle lower rung models. Kind Regards, Raimey rse

Very strange, Mainwaring is an English surname and it is pronounced "Mannering" Cholmondley also a strange but true English surname is pronouced " Chumley" I am not making this up, I was in prep school in England 55 years ago, and we had examples of each. Both remarked to me they wished they had a simple Norman origin name like Bonner. Mike
