Thought I'd just post some pictures of the cleaned up action on the Horatio Jones hammergun. The stock has been refinished and has 5 of probably at least 20 or so coats of the "hand-rubbed oil finish"

Thought this was cool. The initials "DL" are clearly visible. I'm guessing he was the actioner. That's probably all I'll ever be able to figure out.

All of the metal parts have a #1 stamped on the inside surface. I'm not sure what that means. I've heard of some men ordering a pair with no external markings so they never know which gun they are shooting (and thus cannot develop a bias). The guns when then be marked internally so that when disassembled the parts are not confused. I don't think this is a nice enough gun for that kind of treatment, but who knows.

more to follow when the work is done.

Ghostdog,
There was a short story written years ago about a dog that would show up while one was hunting and start pointing birds for the hunter. As the hunt progressed the hunter began to note changes in his surroundings and discovers he's gone back in time. The hunter panics, blindly runs off and finds himself back in the present. He wants another hunt with the dog, but the dog ignores him, he also notices a bunch of other hunters trying to get the dog to take them on a hunt... again.
So my question is, did you take your handle from that story?
Steve

No, but good guess. I'm not that creative. I picked that name because I hunt with Weimaraners, which are sometimes called "gray ghosts" or "ghost dogs". There was also an excellent movie several years back called "ghostdog: way of the samurai".

Roy and dollysods-thanks!

My GSP is just about a living ghost at 13 years of age.
Can you post more pics as it comes together?

My Uncle and I used to hunt with a Weimaraner named King. One day my Uncle shot the last bird of the day for our limit. King dropped it at my Uncle's feet, then trotted back into a buck brush patch and brought out another bird that a previous hunter had wounded. That crazy dog put us one bird over the limit. We were glad there was no warden around. I can't imagine any warden would believe that story.

ghostdog,
Yep, I'm a geologist. I took the handle when I was collecting money for a geological society dinner meeting. A couple of hotties walked up and asked if we were handling the door for some hotties society (I guess it was a hottie society). I said no, that we were collecting for the Houston Geological Society, but that they were welcome to attend. The lead hottie turned to her friend and said "Euuu rockdocs, Yykkk!" And then they both spun around on their stilleto heels and walked away. In general geologists are not the most sophisticated bunch, so I thought what she said was not only hysterical but understandable as well. It was too bad for them though, the meeting they wanted to attend was in the adjoining room.

That's a pretty good way to get an online handle.
