I have put a page that lists over 11,000 US Small Arms Patents from 1814 to 1950. It takes moment to load the page...

No direct links to Google Patents are currently available. Something that I hope to add.

Great effort Peter. So it was Charles Slotterbek of California who was the 1st to patent a multi-barrel longarm? - "84224 17/11/1868 SLOTTERBEK Charles Fire arm" . Henry Slotterbek was a brother to Charles and moved from Philly to L.A. in 1869 and must have been converting Sharps military rifles with A.J. Plate, who was in San Francisco where Charles was a resident. I'm curious if Plate funded both Henry and Charles Slotterbek's ventures? Henry Slotterbek expired on June 24th, 1888.

Why are a few out of sequence patents mixed in along the way?

Kind Regards,

Raimey,

Regarding the drilling patents.

The limiting factor is that
1) Germany is a younger country than the USA
2) They took a while to establish patent laws, hence a patent office. Their patent laws did not take effect until July 1877.

So, the USA has the earliest patent for a drilling that I can find with the Slotterbek 1868 patent.

The oldest German patent for a drilling that I have found is P. Oberhammer, 02 Feb 1878, #DE2795A.
It only took him 6 months to realize he had an invention that could be patented.

I am sure that neither represent the earliest firearm with 3 barrels. They are simply the oldest patents I can find.

Regarding the out of sequence items. Send me an email and list them. With 11,103 items it is a bit much to find on my own.

I make no promises about updating the list by the way. It would quickly become a full time job. I do intend to set up another page with them sorted by last name + first name + patent #.

Pete, this is an incredible effort and value. Thanks so much. I have seen Patent Digests from the 1860s as I recall, but nothing like this , set up to actually find Firearms Patents easily.
