The "on" side of the horse is the side you mount from. Horse don't like it if you do otherwise. Since you don't usually dismount on the right side, it's the "nono" side. Right horse of a team is the "off" horse. Horse you're on is "your" horse. Center horse of troika is called "center" horse. If you fall off that's "unhorsed". If the horse ends up on top, that's "painful". Horse with handles is called "pommel horse" except when the handle's on the saddle in which case only one handle. If the handle was on a boat, it'd be a "Sampson post". More farmers go into gunmaking than do sailors but a doublegun does have a "keel". You can "turn on" a horse with crop, whip, or switch but probably not off. Knowing what to feed your horse is "etiology". Gee Haw Whoa.

Anyone ever known of a case in which shooter was hollow cheeked and wide set of eyes and so needed a stock cast or bent toward the face to put eye over rib? I haven't.

This guy brought this wonderful piece of work to try out at the shooting ground a couple of weeks ago. It was a cross over stock made from a great piece of wood, attatched to a very nice Browning. He could even shoot really well with it.

Now THAT is a crossover! I have the cross dominance thing, but just tape my dominant side eyeglass a little. Cheaper, but on the other hand nobody ever said I shoot really well....maybe you DO get what you pay for!

"Mad Dogs And Englishmen Go Out In The Noonday Sun". I believe that all appliances, measurements, configurations, cartridge sizes, bore measurements, light switches, horse (or mule if you're from Down South) accoutraments and paraphenalia, steering wheels, road lanes & signs, etc. should conform to the English Way, since they are most of our forebears. The penalty for non-compliance to any of the above should be a fortnight in gaol.

BTW folks that drink their beer warm should not be trifled with.

Best Regards, George VII

The is no wrong or right side of a horse when mounting.
Also a horse does not like anything coming up from behind them.

Afraid you're wrong about that one unless your pony has been accustomed to being mounted from both sides. Yes the etiology of the left side mount has to do with swords and where the tack and cinch buckles, but some horses are going to have their say about what's "traditional" just to them alone. I've even seen an old work mare that would shy and sidestep if you tried to get on from a fence rail on her right side. Needed to see the process out of the left eye. They also don't like the rear approach. No prey animal does.

My mentor, the late, great Dr. John M. had a 12 gauge Churchill and later a 20 gauge Purdy stocked to fit him. He was crosseyed dominate. His stocks looked like the one shown above without the hole. They were crooked as a dog's hind leg but worked well for him. Fortunately, I realized when my son was 4 that he was right handed but left eye dominate. He was taught to shoot left handed before he knew any better. He is 17 now an a better shot than I will ever be. Saved me a lot on custom stocks. Not a SXS but the Browning BPS with the bottom ejection and tang safety is the perfect "stock" gun for a lefty.
