What options are there in the way of shotgun slings when you do not want to put sling swivel studs on a double? The only type I know of is one that has a "noose", of sorts, that loops over the barrel and around the grip on the other end. I have one of those but have to remove it once I get where I'm going to be shooting because the loop over the barrel in my field of vision distracts me. Maybe it shouldn't, but it does, and I was wondering/hoping there may be some other kind available.
Any ideas?

When I was stationed in Germany in the late 1970's, there were slings available there that had a leather covered steel end that slipped over the barrels with a loop that went around the stock. The one I used was for an O/U and the barrel piece was shaped like a figure 8 with a piece out of the top so that it didn't interfere with sighting or a rib. I would expect that the same style is available for SxS guns.

C.S.M.C. has a sling that has a open metal leather covered loop that fits around the barrels leaving an opening that allows the sighting rib clear for shooting. I tried one but could not bring myself to trust it. It seemed too easy to slip off. You may want to judge for yourself?

I saw one slip off and the gun hit the ground muzzle end first.
Only ones I trust are the looped ended ones.

I seem to remember someone, maybe Pachmayr, selling sling mounting hardware years ago that mounted flush in the wood. The QD part that was on each end of the sling was "T" shaped and fit into a slot in the gun mounted hardware that was aligned with the bore. Once inserted all the way, it looked as if you turned it 90 degrees and it locked into place.
Anybody here ever tried those on a rifle or shotgun?

The one I have is made for a rifle with the front end identical to the rear. I don't know if they made the "T" type swivel bases for shotgun barrels. The "T" type receptacles on the rifle I have did not have corresponding sling swivels. I ordered corresponding swivels from a gun accessory outlet, maybe Brownell or NECG. They were too small. If anyone has a set of the swivels with the T end, I would be interested in trying them on my gun. Thanks.

Brownells still has the Pachmayr ones I remembered, with the "T" shaped QD piece for the sling. They require a 7/16 hole drilled in the wood to accept the base. Some of ya'll give a look at: http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=9760/Product/QD FLUSH SWIVELS and see how you think they'd work on a BSS. Reckon there's enough wood in the center of the beavertail for the base? I'll look and take some measurements tomorrow morning, but I'm inclined to think there's plenty of wood there. Murphy, looks like you'd have to buy the whole set to get just the sling pieces with the "T" ends. Stan

Drilling the forearm on a SxS is an abomination...

I don't much like the idea of it either, jOe, but your loop ended slings suck, too. It's not like we're talking about drilling a H & H Royal here. Anybody that worries about the looks of their double wouldn't be following me with it to where I kill ducks anyway. I could show the Limeys what "rough shooting" is really about.
