So.... I'm traveling on business to London at the end of the month and note that Bonhams is having an auction... Figured I'd pop by for the experience... A lot of the guns are "loose".

Never dealt with that. Big job to repair? Simple? Any fine gentlemen out there associate with loose guns in the past that can give some advice? :-)

If you buy one that needs re-jointing get it done here. It will get done cheaper and faster. I'll be away shooting in N.Z but my associate Bill will be acting for me and I'll collect everything when I return on August 16th. I went and had a private viewing of a load of the guns I was interested in for clients this week. Definitely worth dropping by if you are in town. Sorry I won't be.

Joshua:
The term "loose" is quite relative. Some guns, of course, being more "loose" than others. And all in the opinion of the person who pronounces them "loose." If that person is an uncompromising pro, then his "loose" may well be shootable for a bit before the gun requires serious attention. In any case, Small Bore is correct. Get it fixed in the UK. He was probably too modest to suggest that the job is often done "better" as well.

If it's just the barrels need re-facing properly it's usually a TIG welding job on the hook of the barrels. It's actually quite routine if it's just that that needs doing.
