I try to never buy a gun that I don't know a lot about including a fairly detailed study of market value... well I was at a very small auction after a rifle and a Win 21 in 16 came up so I started bidding and was happily surprised when the bidding ended and I won at what I thought was reasonable for a 12 gauge. Hope I was not wrong.

I bought a book by Ned Schwing called "Winchesters Finest: The Model 21" Seems decent but is 20 years old. Is there any other/ better resources on the 21? I have not even begun to dig through the DGJ articles.

I think its an early Standard grade, DT, SF, 28" Mod/Full. Have not received it yet to look at all of the stampings to age but the serial is 58xx.

Any resource info, greatly appreciated.

So is it a 12 or a 16?

Four years ago Stephen Cobb had one configured exactly as yours. He had $3600 on it. Very good condition, stock with a correct refinish. I have regretted not buying it every time I have thought of the gun.

Schwing is the most information I have. There is a Model 21 BBS, or at least there used to be.

Best,

Mike

The board Mike is speaking of, I believe, is http://www.model21shotgun.com/.

I have a Model 21 in 16ga. with a s/n of 68xx. It letters to Nov. 38. My understanding is there is no reliable link from s/n to production date. A Cody letter is the best information, to my knowledge. Pictures would be nice.

The Board(Forum) referenced is very much in existance and takes no advertizing or other revenue from anyone.
http://www.model21shotgun.com/
We now have the advanatge of several members with actual experience with Winchester and the Custom Shop including Pauline Muerrle, the last Winchester engraver and whose father was a Winchester employee(foreman I believe) for many many years.
We do not have the Cody records but if you Register and Post pictures of your Model 21 when it arrives, we will attempt to give an honest evaluation and answer your questions.
The Board is really a labor of love.
Pauline is a great assest.-Dick

I have just been given a Winchester model 21 20-bore Grand American to sell. No market for it here in UK and I have no idea as to value - it has a set of 28" and a set of 26" barrels and forends for each set. Nice wood, pistol grip stock, gold parrots or whatever stuck on the sides. any idea as to value or where to get shot of it?
