What might have been the relationship, if any, between the Monte Carlo stock design and Greener's "Rational Stock"?
Seems to me that style would be the only real difference. Functionally they do the same thing. The advert in the post above calls the
gun Monte Carlo, not the stock. Which of course could quickly degenerated to the stock style alone. Greener never had a "Rational" gun so the term never had anything to fix on. Besides it's not as cool sounding as Monte Carlo. Pretty can make a big difference and Greener guns with rational stocks just may not have caught the eye the way the Monte Carlo might of at the time. They certainly have a clumsy look to me. There is a Kraut stock that looks like the Greener too but the name escapes me at the moment. But the Krauts have a talent for building just really ugly guns all around. Not to mention the hideous engraving.
And we all know too that there can be some butt ugly MC stocks and still be MC. Personally I find those like the Perazzi to be right there in the ugly range. The Weatherby sweeping lines are just way more like the original(?) and more pleasing to the eye. When I refinish a Perazzi stock I always cut the MC to a more Weatherby like line. Works for me.
