Found this Holland Royal that may be for sale, It was on Julia's Auction back in October 09. The number is 1188. What can you guys tell me by the description?
It's priced right, but is it worth it?

So what kind of $ and how bad is the pitting on the outside of the right barrel? I thought the auction estimate was unrealistically high, for that price you would have thought the gun had chopper lump barrels and was a self opener....just my take.

The gun can be bought below the lowest reserve price. I see that it has Birmingham proof marks so it tells me it has been re-barreled. If you can go to that aiction in 09 and look at the pics the issue I have is the flats and how they appear.
I can understand a Royal at the price I am seeing has got to have some questions.
As for the barrels, they ring good and my "Smith" said the light pitting could be got out.

To me, the barrels are the gun and the fact that they are not original and made in Birmingham, would not be a true H&H if that is what I wanted. I would rather have original barrels that were Teauge lined.
Before I bought my Fox, I had the opportunity to buy a 1930 H&H Royal that was in very nice condition. The only issue was that it had an original cross-over stock and would need to be re-stocked which was not a problem as I would have had that done anyway to fit me. It had 30" bbls and was very nice. I had it checked out by a smith over there to confirm the condition. I could have got it for about 18-20K, plus the restock would cost another 5-6k. I should have done it as that would have been a steal, but I am very happy with my Fox. Good luck on your hunt.
