I bought this Husky hammer gun on Friday..Pretty neat. The Pheasant in the picture is the one we let Amarillo Mike carry in his game bag, so people will think he actually hit something.

I've seen a few beak shot cockbirds in my pheasant shooting career. At least Mike didn't shoot up the back end too badly.

Nice double Chuck.

I think you should boil that bird a long time. Looks like the meat's gonna be kinda fiberous.

If anyone else is coveting a similar Husqvarna, SIMPSON's in Galena, IL has a bunch of them, both with and without external hammers.

I bought a hammerless 12 ga. HUSKY last year, and have been pleased with it.

I don't know that I've every seen a husky with quite so nice a stick of wood on it. Most of the husky stocks I've seen are pretty utilitarian. Was it re-stocked?

No, its original. I have been looking for a higher grade for a while, and the 2 I found recently have nice wood. PIc doesnt show it, but it has some pretty good engraving on it as well. Live Bird shoot Sunday, so we'll see how she works.

I shoot a Model 51 top lever hammer and love it. Some Huskies have stocks that look a bit like oak but it seems to be pretty durable although ugly. Does anyone know what wood is used in the Huskies that are not stocked in walnut?

Birch was used by a number of northern European makers for their utilitarian and military gun. For instance, both of my Swedish Mauser rifles--Carl Gustaf (1914) and Husqvarna (1943)--are stocked in it. Though birch lacks figure and beauty it is a very stable wood and quite strong--perhaps even more so than walnut.
