Any sources readily available for this obsolete round? Can the chamber be reamed to a more common round of similar pressures?

Silver, I believe the 6.5x48r Sauer is based on the British .360 2 1/4-inch case. Dimensions can be found in European Sporting Cartridges by W.B. Dixon. Dimensions were "normalized" (standardized) for the 6.5x48r Sauer in 1923.

Yes it is based on the 0.360" 2 1/4" BPE and one should be able to form from it. Buffalo Arms forms the 0.360" 2 1/4" from 30-40 Krag. I'll check but I think Mike Ford who has penned a series in the GGCA publication has formed some. I hope the example doesn't see a reamer.
Kind Regards,
Raimey rse

Mike,
This is a 6.5x48 R Sauer, not 6.5x58.
