Has anyone else had problems finding Remington 209 Premier STS primers? Two of my local places are out and Gander Mtn no longer carries them, Midway USA is also out of stock with no backorder.

I talked with Balistics Products last week and they tell me everybody is back ordered with Remington for the STS 209 primers. Remington should have them back in production Jan-Feb time frame.
When they will get to the dealers, who knows?

I agree that there the best primer on the market. I got a Mec 9000GN reloader for christmas and was looking forward to putting it to work.

Buddy, did you by chance ask them if they had any Fiocchi primers? I have been wanting to try there DX12 in my Full/Full Parker DHE at sporting clays.

The comments about the STS primer being the best out there has me wondering. What do they do better than others like the W-W, CCI, or Fed 209/209A? I've not changed loads much, having loaded many thousands of just a few loads in my PW's. All were always of either moderate pressure for modern skeet/SC/dove/quail or my current low pressure load. The only powders I've used were Unique, 700x, Clays, (12ga), and 296 and Lil' Gun for the 410. For these loads, I've never noted an ignition problem or inconsistancy.

This year I have rounded up 4 bricks of STS primers and have been told not look for any more in the near future. The only reason I have become fond of them is a load that gives me 1 1/8 oz. in a 12g at 6600PSI. The other primers can be used and be within pressure specs, but the Rem STS are still the lowest pressure load I have worked with. If the primers disapear I will have to rethink my standard 12g load. I had to do just that when Win. quit the 16g wads and promo hulls. We will over come...of that I am sure.
Best,
Ron

I would think that the Winchester primers would be about the same as the STS. The CCI are quite a bit hotter than the others, but I interchange the Winchesters and the STS. If you can not get them, you should be able to change something else to keep the pressures low........Derrick, what is a 9000GN? I haven't heard of that.

Jimmy, the 9000 GN is the progressive MEC 9000 loader with the new primer tray. If I remember correctly it holds 2000 primers and works a lot better than the old version.

I would be careful in subsituting one primer for another. You just can't say that CCI could be used instead of Winchester, or any other without changing pressures and psi.

Primers
· CCI 109 and CCI 209 are ballistically identical and can be interchanged. Alliant Powders Reloaders Guide 2004.
.
· CCI 209M (magnum) is hotter and cannot be substituted for CCI 209 and 109. Alliant Powders Reloaders Guide 2004
.
· Rem 209 is hotter and cannot be substituted for Rem 97 or Rem 209P primer. Alliant Powders Reloaders Guide 2004.

· Rem 209P is interchangeable with Rem 97 primer. Alliant Powders Reloaders Guide 2004.

· Federal 209A is hotter and cannot be substituted for Federal 209. Alliant Powders Reloaders Guide 2004.

· Rem Premier STS primers can be substituted for Rem 209P primers. http://www.remington.com/ammo/reloading/shotshell.htm
.
· CCI 209M is approximately equivalent to Rem 209P and can be safely substituted per telephone conversation with Hodgdon staff on 1/12/04. From the above, one could assume that Rem Premier STS can be substituted for CCI 209M and Rem 97.

· Cheddite 209 can be substituted for Win 209. Posts on various forums.
