A friend was asking me if I knew anything about a W.W. Greener shotgun that's been in the family for the past 30 years or so, obtained when his mom traded an "old 67 chev and jug of moonshine" for it! I know next to nothing about Greener shotguns.
Any help with it would be appreciated!
On the rib it says W.W. Greener's Forester's gun Birmingham and London. SN# 55951. Barrels measure out at just shy of 32" and ring true. Metal thickness at the bores look good, although I don't have a bore gauge to measure them properly. Action frame is checkered, with the barrels and action having been re-blued, from the looks of it. From what I can gather, the action was generally case-colored. The wood is in good condition, both forend and buttstock, with no cracks or splits, although a small piece is missing from the forend.
The barrels are fluid steel, with a brass mid-bead and ivory front bead. Very slight looseness in lock-up, and if I were to guess, I'd say the stock has been cut, although if so, it's finished decently. Not so with the checkering though, with lines uneven and multiple mistakes. Barrels are touching, so it hasn't been cut-I don't think.
He was looking for information in general and what the value might be. I know he's not much into guns, and he said his brother is more into rifles and pistols, so at some point in time they may want to sell it.
I can take some photos of it, and can try to figure out how to post them if that would help.
Again, thanks for any information you can pass along.
Regards, Cameron

I checked Greener's book and there is only the briefest of mentions of the Forester hammer gun together with the Dominion hammer gun and the intimation was that they were exported to the States. The serial number would put it at 1868. Photos would be gratefully viewed. Lagopus.....

I've had 2 over the years, one Damascus, one fluid.
Very "sturdy" guns, massive 32" barrels, extreme choke last one was choked 46 thou in each barrel.
Machine "engraved" receiver.
I have some photos and an e-mail from Graham Greener somewhere I will try to locate.

Lagopus,
The Greener gun is a hammerless, and weighs in at 7.4oz. On the rib extension it says "Patent Treble Wedge Fast."
Mark,
Appreciate any photos or email from Graham Greener you can drum up.
I'm going to take some photos of it in about 5 minutes, so I'll see what I can do to get them posted.
Best, Cameron

Cameron, there was only the briefest of mentions in Greener's book. The serial number must have its own series then like some of Greener's other models and not in the general numbering sequence. Interesting gun. I wonder if they were made for export as I have never come across one here in England. Lagopus.....

It looks like the image is a little large. Not sure how to downsize it! I guess I'd better go back to the drawing board and see how that's done.
